Local residents hoping to slim down for summer might consider a new nonsurgical weight-loss program at Central DuPage Hospital, which boasts fast results. The Bariatric Treatment Center at the Winfield hospital expanded its program this month to include the “New Direction Weight Loss System,” a medically supervised low-calorie diet that induces “rapid safe weight loss of two to five pounds per week,” said Julie Sanfilippo, a registered dietitian with the program. In the program, patients are required to attend weekly one-hour classes, meet regularly with physicians on the hospital’s medical staff, participate in medical tests and weigh-ins, purchase nutritional products and attend an educational seminar. Classes cost $25 a week. “We want to have as many options as we can to treat obesity, whether it’s surgical or nonsurgical,” Sanfilippo said. The program is aimed at women who are at least 40 pounds overweight and men who are at least 50 pounds overweight, people with type 2 diabetes and patients with other health concerns related to obesity, according to a news release from the hospital.
