Vegan v Vegetarian explained


Like vegetarians, vegans don’t eat any meat or fish, but in addition to this, vegans also don’t eat any dairy products or any animal by products.
Durban-based nutritionist consultant, Dr Paul Palmer says the primary difference between the two diets is the degree of implementation when ethically excluding foods. “Vegetarians do not eat meat or fish, but they usually eat eggs and dairy products like milk and cheese,” explains Palmer.“Vegans do not eat any animal products at all, so they are 100% plant-based. Vegetarians still eat foods that can be labelled non-ethical while vegans will abstain from them completely.”
